Letter to the Editor: Not everyone practices the same religion | Letters to the Editor

The First Amendment to our Constitution states that “Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of any religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” The intention was to allow people to practice their religion, but also to protect citizens from others who try to impose their religion on them.

Wayne D. Wong’s article in Community Voices on Judge Roy Moore, known as the “Ten Commandments Judge,” (August 19) indicates that Wong wants the United States to be considered a Christian nation. I have nothing against Christians who practice their religion. However, as a non-Christian, I object to the attempt to inscribe their religious views outside of their churches and homes and in all public spheres.
