Elon University Seeks Assistant Professor or Lecturer in Jazz Studies

Elon University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Jazz Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track; PhD required) beginning in August 2023. The Music Department seeks a dynamic colleague with a demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or high school jazz education. The main responsibilities of the position will be to lead the jazz/big band ensemble, the jazz combo, and to teach classes in jazz improvisation and harmony and arrangement. Administrative duties include coordinating the minor in Jazz Studies and the annual Elon Jazz Festival. Other teaching duties may include teaching college courses such as Jazz History, applied courses, Elon Core Curriculum courses, or other courses aligned with the expertise of successful applicants. Service in departmental and university committees, educational advice for jazz minors and active recruitment of students will also be expected. Candidates who have experience working with a wide range of people and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.
